KEMAMAN -- Communication and Multimedia Minister Datuk Seri Ahmad Shabery Cheek today spoke of the need for the mainstream media to diversify the channels for news dissemination to draw the young people easily influenced by the social media. He said it was important for the mainstream media, which had a great role in reporting the truth and providing the latest information, to diversify the news delivery channels in order to be accepted by the young. "The mainstream media is in need of consolidation. If we do not do the upgrading now, we should not fret if people are not drawn to the mainstream media. The mainstream media has to diversify the news distribution channels," he said in an interview with Bernama here. Department of National Unity and Integration director-general Datuk Azman Amin had said recently that young people were more inclined to trust the social media as a source of news even when a major portion of their reports and information was not true. Azman had said that people aged 30 years and below used the social media as their main source of information.
