Liow: Slip-Prone Rail Tracks Identified

KUALA LUMPUR - Authorities have identified slip-prone tracks after a cargo train derailed at Keretapi Tanah Melayu's (KTM) Bank Negara station Thursday (Nov 23) morning, disrupting railway services in Klang Valley.

Transport Minister Datuk Seri Liow Tiong Lai (pix) said the operational problem by KTM was viewed seriously while measures have been put in place to further improve the situation.

"In certain areas we have told KTM operators to slow down the traffic and we are in the midst of improving it," he told reporters at the launch of Pikom's 9th Leadership Summit 2017 on Thursday.

According to KTM's Facebook account, the derailment occurred at about 5am, affecting services through the KL station, Bank Negara, Putra and Segambut.

Liow said that the government was in the midst of upgrading the KTM Klang Valley Double Track (KVDT) and the Southern Track projects.

"We are in the process of turning it into a fully electrical double track.

"We are confident that it will boost our railway services in the near future," he said.
