KUALA LUMPUR - Thaipusam celebrations this year should be a source of inspiration for all communities to continue living in peace, unity and stability, says Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak.
The Prime Minister said yesterday that he hoped that the celebration by Hindus would be a symbol of the spirit of Negaraku, as well as equality towards a future of excellence.
“Let us together appreciate the spirit of Thaipusam with Hindu families, friends and acquaintances.
“Let’s hope all Hindu communities in Malaysia have a meaningful Thaipusam this year,” Najib said in a short video message on Twitter.
Thaipusam will be celebrated on Wednesday.
Meanwhile, Putera MIC contributed 2,000 free boxes of milk to Hindu devotees performing religious ceremonies, including fulfilling their vows at Batu Caves.
The one-litre boxes of milk were presented by MIC central working committee member and Deputy Education Minister Datuk P. Kamalanathan at SJK(T) Batu Caves yesterday.
Kamalanathan said the programme, the first such effort organised by Putera MIC, was a good initiative and should be continued in the future.
“Offering of milk is a Hindu religious ritual of worship. There are several types of ‘kavadis’ which are carried to take milk offerings to Lord Subramaniam.
“Putera MIC’s contribution of free milk to devotees, including school students, is implemented so that it can be used in the course of performing their religious rites,” said Kamalanathan.
Also present were national Putera MIC chief Uvaraja Maniam and Selangor Putera MIC chief Shashi Muniandy.
Kamalanathan stressed that the religious ceremony should be performed in accordance with culture and tradition in a calm and peaceful manner.
He also urged the people to use public transport to reduce traffic congestion.
