KUALA LUMPUR - Barisan Nasional should foster and maintain friendships among component parties to achieve victory in the 14th General Election, says Umno Information chief Tan Sri Annuar Musa.
This principle to uphold 'Persahabatan' with MCA, MIC and other parties he said, is important as it was the basis of Umno's establishment.
It is also part of the 5P formulae - Pemimpin, Parti, Persahabatan, Pengundi, Perjuangan (Leader, party, friendship, voter, party struggles) - which Annuar drew up to prepare for the nationwide polls.
"Umno has been defending the rights of this multiracial society for 70 years now. Hence Umno branch leaders must close ranks for the party and BN," he told Gombak constituents here during an Umno information and awareness programme last night.
On loyalty, the Ketereh MP said party members must express their commitment to the party. He said allegiance to the party is something that must be inherited to other generations as Umno is a "party with a soul".
"Umno must in turn, be continuously dedicated to its voters' welfare and not be seasonal about it because the party's strength is in the grassroots.
"National, religious and racial issues must be prioritised in terms of party struggles," he added.
At the event which saw the presence of some 300 party members, Annuar took the opportunity to clarify the government’s stand on current issues. Present was Gombak Umno deputy chief Datuk Megat Zulkarnain Omardin.
