PETALING JAYA - Ex-Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia (Pribumi) vice-president Datuk Hamidah Osman (pic) says she quit the party due to its “uncouth and vulgar” members.
“I just can’t agree with the way the party is being managed... especially how the younger members curse and use vulgarity on social media such as Facebook to run a person down,” she said when contacted yesterday.
“He accused me of being an Umno agent, and even used words like berambus (get lost) from the party. Yet the leadership did nothing to reprimand him,” she added.
Breaking her silence over her decision to quit, the former Wanita Umno veteran and Perak executive councillor accused Pribumi of having lost its values for the sole purpose of winning the next general election.
“It should be about the ability to develop talents with the right values.
“I cannot compromise on a lack of ethics and decorum,” she said.
Last week, Pribumi secretary-general Datuk Dr Shahruddin Md Salleh said the party and its supreme council decided to accept Hamidah’s resignation as vice-president, Gopeng division protem committee chairman and Pribumi member.
The turn of events followed her sister Hamizura’s racially-charged Facebook post which sparked outrage among some party leaders.
Pribumi founding member Anina Saadudin, who hogged the limelight for her outspokenness, also quit the party saying Pribumi was mired in cronyism and a struggle for power among its leadership.
On her future plans, Hamidah said she wanted to take a rest and spend time with her family “which I have neglected for Pribumi’s sake”.
