KUALA LUMPUR - The High Court will decide in January on Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia president Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin’s application to strike out a suit by a former Negeri Sembilan Pribumi chief activist for defamation.
Justice Datuk Nik Hasmat Nik Mohamed set Jan 19 for the decision, after submissions in his chambers yesterday. The application was filed on July 25.
Muhyiddin’s counsel Muhammad Faizal Faiz Mohd Hasani said that among the grounds for striking out the suit was that Mohd Anas Sudin failed to satisfy the key element of defamation and that the suit is an abuse of the court process.
In his statement of claim, Mohd Anas said that on April 5, he held a press conference to announce that 500 Pribumi members had left the party because they were dissatisfied with Muhyiddin's leadership.
Mohd Anas is seeking RM10mil in general damages; aggravated and exemplary damages; and an injunction to prevent Muhyiddin from defaming him.
