Youths To Lead Umno’s Charge

PEKAN - The general election will be called when the Barisan Nasional machinery is ready, says Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak.

He said to that end, the party needs a youthful and loyal army to win the “war” to come.

“We do not need troops that are astray, undisciplined, careless, missing and weak. We want youths who are willing to work hard, day and night. These youths must be willing to obey orders,” he said at a Pekan Barisan youth gathering in Tanjung Selangor here yesterday.

Najib said the Barisan youth movement must go to the ground to meet voters face-to-face while also maintaining support through social media like Facebook, Telegram and WhatsApp.

“The Barisan and Umno government is for youths.

“Who else can youths depend on? The Opposition? They are in disarray,” he said, pointing out that Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia’s so-called Armada wing was not even in the party’s constitution.

Earlier at the Program Bantu Rakyat and Jom Simpan with the National Higher Education Fund Corporation (PTPTN) events, Najib said Umno, as the strongest political party in the country, must be seen as relevant at all times.

“Umno must be a party that is always on hand to help the people. We see the Opposition is now in disorder.

“Let them be that way while Umno continues to be committed to helping the people in good times and bad,” he said at the programme held in Kampung Tanjung Medang Hilir.

Najib added that even as the Government undertakes many projects in urban areas, this did not mean that the welfare of the rural folk has been forgotten.

“Our economic growth has reached 6.2% and it is among the highest in the world. We are also carrying out iconic projects like the MRT.

“When we do this, the economy will continue to grow and then we can distribute the wealth to rural folk and those who need it.

“Some may question why we build these projects in Kuala Lumpur when the people there do not support us but one must understand the theory of economy.

“We want the economy to grow so we can budget more allocation for the rural areas,” said Najib.

Also present was Umno welfare bureau chairman Datuk Dr Shamsul Anuar Nasarah.

During the event, up to 3,100 Year One pupils in Pekan received an SSPN-i deposit account from PTPTN and Umno.
