KOTA KINABALU - The need for Barisan Nasional (BN) to stand united and have realistic expectations in the upcoming 14th General Election were among the issues emphasised by Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi during an hour long meeting with the Sabah BN liaison committee, here tonight.
Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department Datuk Seri Abdul Rahman Dahlan said Zahid, who is also BN deputy chairman, advised candidates who wished to contest in GE14 to also understand the party's struggle.
"He wants candidates who possess both credibility and strong support from the rakyat, regardless of whether the individual is an incumbent or not.
"He was very detailed in terms of what needed to be done daily before and during polling to ensure that (BN) wins GE14," he told reporters after the closed-door meeting.
Abdul Rahman, who is state BN secretary, said Zahid also touched on the need for the party machinery and all candidates to understand each procedure with regards to GE14, and not only when campaigning.
"As a party which has been around for a long time, we have had minor and major weaknesses based on our experience. We don't any repeats (of these mistakes) and this is what the BN deputy chairman emphasised," he added.
The meeting, which started at 9.30pm, was attended by Sabah Chief Minister Tan Sri Musa Aman, who is also state BN and Umno liaison chief.
Leaders from Sabah BN component parties Parti Bersatu Sabah (PBS), United Pasokmomogun Kadazandusun Murut Organisation (Upko), Parti Bersatu Rakyat Sabah (PBRS) , Liberal Democratic Party (LDP), Gerakan, MCA, and MIC were present at the meeting.
Others present included Deputy Chief Minister cum PBS president Tan Sri Joseph Pairin Kitingan, Upko president Datuk Seri Wilfred Madius Tangau, LDP president Datuk Seri Teo Chee Kang and PBRS president Tan Sri Joseph Kurup.
