NEW DELHI : A teenage rape victim was allegedly sexually assaulted a second time while in hospital receiving treatment for the original attack in India's east, police said Monday, in the latest case of violence against women.

The 15-year-old girl has told police that she was raped on Sunday by a security guard at the hospital where she had been admitted in Jamshedpur city in the impoverished state of Jharkhand.

"We registered a case and arrested the private security guard posted at the hospital after the girl's complaint and are now awaiting her medical report," police superintendent Chandan Jha told AFP.

"The girl has (now) been referred to the best hospital in the city for further treatment and rehabilitation," he added.

The girl had been admitted several days earlier to the M.G.M Hospital after informing police that she had been raped by a teenager in her neighbourhood on the city's outskirts.

"Since the accused in the earlier case was also a minor, he was detained and sent to a juvenile remand home," Jha said.

NEW DELHI : An Air India plane with 160 passengers was forced to return to New Delhi almost 30 minutes into a Milan-bound flight after smoke was detected in the cabin Tuesday, the airline said.

GENEVA : The Zika virus, blamed for a surge in birth defects, is "spreading explosively", the World Health Organization chief Margaret Chan said Thursday, calling for an emergency meeting on the outbreak on February 1.

PATTANI : Thailand Police have arrested a Malaysian man and recovered 80 slabs of ‘ketum’ leaves weighing 15kg from his car. MANAGUA : Thirteen Costa Ricans died Saturday when a small ship carrying 32 tourists from Latin America, the United States and Britain sank off Nicaragua's Little Corn Island in the Caribbean, officials said.

Nicaraguan government spokeswoman and First Lady Rosario Murillo said that "of the 32 passengers, 13 lost their lives, all of them are Costa Rican."

She said the other passengers survived and were taken to nearby Big Corn Island.
