Tanjung Bungah Landslide S&R Operation Enters 3rd Day

GEORGE TOWN - The search and rescue (S&R) operation for the remaining two victims of the landslide at a housing project site in Lembah Permai, Tanjung Bungah here enters its third day, today.

The two missing victims have been identified as Yuan Kouk Wern, 27, a local, and Muhammad Monirul Islam, a Bangladeshi.

As at 9 pm yesterday, nine bodies had been recovered, and identified as Myanmar nationals Yunus Nazir Huson, Muhammad Elyas Mustak and Rahmatullah Mohd Sidiq; Bangladeshi nationals Hossen Mia, Nur Alam and Rahaman Abdur; Indonesians Hosrin Sharif and Erwin Salis; and Pakistani national Raza Ali.

Rahaman's body, the latest to be recovered, was found about one metre from that of the eighth victim around 6.20 pm before being brought out and sent to Penang Hospital at 8.38 pm.

The operation to look for the remaining two bodies continued from last night till this morning.

The landslide happened at 8.57 am on Saturday while a group of labourers were carrying out construction work at the basement of the building.
