SEREMBAN - Former Cabinet minister Tan Sri Napsiah Omar (pic) has passed away at her Ampang Jaya home in Selangor. She was 74.
When contacted, former Pilah assemblyman Datuk Norhayati Omar said Napsiah died of liver-related complications yesterday.
Her remains were taken to Tunku Muhriz surau in Kampung Jawa, Kuala Pilah, last night.
She is expected to be laid to rest today.
Napsiah, who was the former MP for Kuala Pilah, is survived by a son and three daughters.
She joined the Kuala Pilah Umno branch in 1972 and later became MP for three terms from 1982.
Napsiah served as minister at the Public Enterprises Ministry in 1987 and National Unity and Social Development Ministry in 1990.
Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak extended his condolences to Napsiah’s family on Twitter.
“I still remember her words that Umno is alive and strong because of its members. May Allah bless her soul. Al-Fatihah,” he said in his message.
