GEORGETOWN : Lee Chong Wei is hoping for a full turnout at the SPICE Arena this week as he aims for a fifth Malaysia Masters GP Gold title.

The former world No 1 who was raised in Bukit Mertajam, said this is the first time he is competing in a major tournament in his hometown, and the support of the crowd will surely help raise his spirit.

"The last time I remember playing in Penang was during my junior days. I have never played in a major tournament back home, so it is definitely special for me to be here.

"I hope the home fans will fill the stadium and stand behind me as I aim to win the title.

I promise to give my best," said Chong Wei who tested the court here, earlier today. Chong Wei, who is ranked No 5 in the world has won the Malaysia Masters for four years in row, from 2009 all the way to 2012.

He will play India's R.M.V Gurusaidut in the men's singles opening round on Wednesday. "Although I'm the top seed, I don't want to underestimate anybody. I don't want to think too much but focus fully on every match."
