Called to keep Umno out of Sarawak, its Chief Minister Tan Sri Adenan Satem has responded with his own proposal to also bar opposition parties DAP, PKR and PAS from setting up base in the Borneo state.

Adenan disclosed that he had been urged by opposition lawmakers to approve a motion at the state assembly recently to disallow the Barisan Nasional (BN) coalition’s biggest party from establishing an office in Sarawak, national paper New Sunday Times reported today.

“Since Umno, a political party that was established in West Malaysia, is not allowed to enter Sarawak, it is only fair if we give the same treatment to DAP, PKR and even PAS. All these three opposition parties were established in the peninsula,” he was quoted saying in Kuching yesterday.

He recounted that the issue was raised in a recent state assembly sitting.

“I told them that I have no problem with pushing for the motion provided the opposition also pushed a motion to ensure that DAP, PKR and PAS never come to Sarawak.

“They were unable to answer and sat there looking stupid,” the Parti Pesaka Bumiputera Bersatu (PBB) president added.

Adenan was also reported to have given an assurance that the state government would remain in the hands of Sarawakians.

“We know Sarawak much better because this is our fate,” he was quoted saying.
